some years ago, it was because here the goverment was taken by the militars
and maybe you have heard about the malvinas war here in argentina?
they made the military service obligatory and most of the militars where young people
and most of them died in that war
then we a president of us called Carlos Menem get to the goverment, he take out the obligatory military service
and now the military service is profecional, and only the ones that want to get in , can be part of it
now, my opinion is that the military servise is not needed in any country, because war must not exist, and we, human beeing have to learn to leave in peace.
